Citroën made quite the statement at the 2018 Düsseldorf Caravan Salon with its concept, the Type H WildCamp. This modernized throwback to 1955 captured attention and looked ready for a long journey on Route 66. Now, five years later, Citroën is introducing a smaller version of that concept, the Type Holidays, which is set to shake up the midsize-van camper market. With its retro looks, pop-up roof, and versatile floor plan, the Type Holidays is poised to compete with other popular campers like the Volkswagen California and Ford Nugget.

Of course, Citroën couldn’t just create a standard camper van based on the SpaceTourer midsize van. Instead, the brand opted to incorporate its signature quirkiness. Taking inspiration from the classic Type H that was produced between 1947 and 1981, the Type Holidays brings a serious retro flair to the camper van market. The distinct flat, broad corrugated body panels give the vehicle its unique look and set it apart from other campers on the road.

To enter the highly competitive camper van market, Citroën joined forces with Slovenian camper builder Bravia Mobil. Together, they removed the factory roof and installed a pop-top to create a standing-height interior and add a second bed. With a total of four berths, the Type Holidays is suitable for both families and couples looking for a van life getaway. The camper also features two rear seats mounted to floor rails, which can be adjusted for optimal comfort and practicality. They can even be removed completely to create more cargo and living space. For couples, the rear row can be easily removed to create a two-story split with an upstairs bedroom and spacious downstairs living area.

Inside the Type Holidays, you’ll find a well-integrated kitchen block with a stove, sink, and fridge. While it may not have the indoor/outdoor cooking capability of some competitors, Citroën emphasizes the sliding door behind the kitchen block, which helps with ventilation. Other features of the camper include a Webasto heater for comfortable camping in all seasons and an outdoor shower attached to a 25-liter fresh water tank.

Citroën unveiled the Type Holidays at the Düsseldorf Caravan Salon as a preview of its upcoming Holidays range. This new line will further solidify Citroën’s presence in the RV market, building on its past successes with concept vehicles and production packages.
