Cindy Crawford’s Criticism of Oprah Winfrey Leaves Gayle King ‘Disappointed’

Gayle King stands in solidarity with her best friend, Oprah Winfrey. The “CBS This Morning” co-host responded to Cindy Crawford’s remarks in the new AppleTV+ docuseries, “The Super Models,” where Crawford criticized Winfrey’s handling of a past interview.

In the series, Crawford recounted her appearance on Winfrey’s talk show in 1986 when she was just 20 years old.

“Did she always have this body?” Winfrey, 69, asked after introducing the fashion icon. “Stand up for a moment.”

Awkwardly, Crawford complied and Winfrey continued, saying, “Now this is what I call a BODY.”

Reflecting on the experience, Crawford said, “I felt like chattel or a child, expected to be seen and not heard. When you look at it through today’s lens, Oprah seemed to be saying, ‘Stand up and show me your body. Prove why you deserve to be here.’ In the moment, I didn’t fully grasp it, but watching it back, I realized, ‘Oh my gosh, that was really not okay, especially coming from Oprah.'”

While King hasn’t seen the clip, she expressed her desire to watch the docuseries.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight on Thursday, King shared, “I’m surprised and a little disappointed. Cindy has appeared on Oprah’s show many, many times, and it has always been a pleasant experience. I would hate to think that something from years ago could still bother her.”

King clarified that she doesn’t have full clarity on what transpired during the past exchange, but she noted, “It’s not Oprah’s style to humiliate or make anyone feel bad.”

She added, “I need to see it for myself, but as far as I know, everything is good between Oprah and Cindy.”

So far, Winfrey has yet to address the situation.

The docuseries also features Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, and Christy Turlington as they reflect on their careers.

“The Super Models” is currently available for streaming on Apple TV+.
