Christie commented on CNN, saying, “Every time he speaks, his lawyers must cringe with disgust.” One of Trump’s potential defenses for the 91 felony counts he faces in four criminal cases is that he relied on legal advice while orchestrating a plot to overturn the 2020 election results. However, during Sunday’s interview, Trump admitted that the decisions were his own. “It was my choice,” Trump told Kristen Welker. Christie, a former Trump ally and current contender for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, remarked that Trump is only further damaging his chances of a successful defense. While the interview was filled with Trump’s usual falsehoods, Christie referred to this as a rare moment when the former president was actually telling the truth. “I believe he is responsible for his conduct.
