Chris Christie appears eager for a battle with former President Donald Trump, not just in a debate, but in the ring. When asked by Piers Morgan how he would do against Trump in a UFC octagon or boxing ring, Christie confidently stated, “Come on. The guy’s 78 years old, I’d kick his ass.” (Note: Trump is actually 77, but the point stands.)
While Christie’s chances of overtaking Trump in the GOP presidential race are slim, as he is polling in the single digits in some polls, he has been outspoken in his criticism of the twice-indicted former president. Christie is one of the few Republicans consistently challenging Trump regarding his legal issues.
A spokesperson for Trump seemed skeptical of Christie’s playful consideration of Morgan’s challenge, stating, “Chris Christie should think before he opens his mouth.”
Although a physical showdown between Christie and Trump would be a promoter’s fantasy, it appears more likely that tech giants Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk would face off. However, the idea of the former New Jersey governor, who once coached Trump for debates, squaring up against him does have its intrigue.
Interestingly, Morgan also asked Christie to assess a potential Zuckerberg-Musk fight, to which Christie replied, “If I were Elon, I would be a little bit worried.”
Christie has met the donor requirements to participate in the first GOP debate on Aug. 23. However, any jabs he takes at Trump will likely be without the former president’s presence, as Trump has questioned the need for a debate given his significant lead.
