Chicago Road Rage Shooting: Husband Shares Shocking Account as Wife is Shot in Head – NBC Chicago

The husband of a woman who was shot in the head near a Home Depot store in a bustling Chicago shopping district on Tuesday morning recounted that the incident all began when he honked at someone to move their vehicle.

Police have confirmed that the shooting occurred around 9:30 a.m. in the 200 block of West 87th Street. The victim, a 41-year-old woman, was inside a vehicle when she was struck in the head by gunfire, according to authorities.

The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, and no arrests have been made at this time, the police stated. More information can be found on the Chicago Police Department website.

This tragic incident took place in close proximity to several prominent stores such as Home Depot, AutoZone, and Starbucks.

Area Alderman Ronnie Moseley also mentioned that the incident was a result of an escalating road rage incident.

Jesus Garcia, the husband of the victim, recounted to NBC Chicago that he, along with his wife and 15-year-old son, were involved in a confrontation near the parking lot. He indicated that someone from the other vehicle had a gun.

“I honked the horn to signal him to move… and the person stepped out of the vehicle. They were aggressive and struck me in the face with the gun,” Jesus Garcia said in Spanish, which was later translated by the family’s pastor, Abemail Diaz. “I tried to protect my family – then the person started firing in all directions… and unfortunately, my wife was hit in the head.”

Investigators have discovered eight shell casings at the scene. The Garcia family’s Dodge Ram bears a visible bullet hole on the passenger side, where Sylvia Garcia was shot.

Jesus Garcia mentioned that his wife runs a successful baking business and is also a chaplain. As of Tuesday afternoon, she continues to be in critical condition.
