Cheney Warns of Republican House Majority as a ‘Threat’ in 2025

In an interview with “CBS Sunday Morning,” former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney expressed her concerns that a GOP majority in the House in 2025 would pose a “threat” to the country.

Cheney stated, “I believe very strongly in those principles and ideals that have defined the Republican Party, but the Republican Party of today has made a choice and they haven’t chosen the Constitution. And so I do think it presents a threat if the Republicans are in the majority in January 2025.”

She also criticized current House Speaker Mike Johnson, calling him “absolutely” a collaborator in the effort to overturn the 2020 election and stated that he should not be speaker in 2025.

Cheney expressed her concerns, saying, “We have to ensure that we don’t have a situation where the election that might be thrown into the House of Representatives is overseen by a Republican majority.”

She warned of the possibility of an election being thrown into the House of Representatives, and highlighted that only two presidents have been selected by the House in history.

Cheney also criticized Johnson for ignoring the rulings of the courts after the 2020 election in order to do Donald Trump’s bidding.

Cheney’s new book, set to release Tuesday, issues a strong rebuke of the Republican Party, its leadership, and former President Trump, whom she refers to as “the most dangerous man ever to inhabit the Oval Office.”

She went on to criticize Johnson for being especially susceptible to flattery from Trump and aspiring to be in Trump’s orbit.

Cheney, who played a prominent role as vice chair of the House’s January 6 committee, uncovered critical details about Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election.

She has expressed her determination to stop Trump from returning to the White House, even considering a 2024 presidential run herself.

Cheney has made it clear that she will not support Trump as the party’s nominee, and is willing to leave the GOP if necessary.
