The nominees for the 2023 Game Awards, acknowledging the top games and creators in the gaming industry, have officially been revealed. Two highly anticipated sequels, survival-horror title Alan Wake 2 from Remedy Entertainment and role-playing game Baldur’s Gate 3 from Larian Studios, lead the pack with eight nominations each, including Game of the Year.
The other nominees for Game of the Year are also part of well-established series: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 from Insomniac Games, Resident Evil 4 from Capcom, Super Mario Bros. Wonder from Nintendo, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from Nintendo.
This year also sees films and series nominated in the Best Adaptation category, such as “Castlevania: Nocturne” (Netflix), “Gran Turismo” (Sony Pictures), “The Last of Us” (HBO), “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” (Illumination/Universal Pictures), and “Twisted Metal” (Peacock).
Nintendo is leading the nominations with 15 nods, followed by Sony Interactive Entertainment/PlayStation with 13, Xbox (including Bethesda and Blizzard) with 10, and Epic Games with nine.
The 2023 Game Awards showcase a total of 112 different games, individuals, teams, and events across various genres and platforms. The nominees were selected by a global jury consisting of individuals from over 100 media publications and influencer outlets.
The 10th annual Game Awards show is set to be live-streamed from the Peacock Theater in L.A. on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, across more than 30 platforms including YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, TikTok Live, and Twitter. Alongside the winners announcement, the event will also feature exclusive announcements and trailers, live music performances, and celebrity cameos.
Fans have the opportunity to vote for the winners in all categories via online voting on thegameawards.com until Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. PT. Additionally, fans can vote for the nominees on the award show’s official Discord server and join a live watch party on Dec. 7.
The Game Awards is spearheaded by Geoff Keighley and Kimmie Kim, supported by creative director LeRoy Bennett and director Richard Preuss.
