Charity raises concern over inaccessibility of defibrillators, being 19 minutes away on average

  • Public access defibrillators are, on average, located 726 meters away from a given postcode

Defibrillators are typically located too far away to save lives, according to a warning issued by a charity.

For the first time, the precise walking distance from every registered defibrillator in the UK has been mapped, revealing an average distance of 19 minutes.

Experts claim that the delay in accessing these machines is resulting in the loss of thousands of lives each year.

When a defibrillator is used within five minutes of a cardiac arrest, survival rates are 70 percent. However, for each additional minute of delay, this rate decreases by 10 percent, indicating that people often reach the equipment too late.
