Charges Filed Against Dealer Selling Fentanyl Pills to Cop Connected to De Niro Grandson’s Tragic Death

  • Prosecutors claim that the woman accused of selling pills to Robert De Niro’s grandson also sold to an undercover cop.
  • An indictment reveals that Sophia Marks allegedly sold 50 fentanyl-laced oxycodone pills after the death of Leandro De Niro-Rodriguez.
  • Marks did not enter a plea during her initial court appearance.

Less than two weeks after allegedly selling a fentanyl-laced pill that caused the death of Leandro De Niro-Rodriguez, 20-year-old Sophia Marks is accused of selling 50 suspected counterfeit fentanyl-laced oxycodone pills to an undercover cop, according to prosecutors. The indictment filed on Friday includes three separate charges related to drug distribution, citing that Marks sold three counterfeit oxycodone pills with fentanyl and two Xanax tablets to De Niro-Rodriguez. He died from an overdose after ingesting one of the oxycodone pills. The document also states that Marks met an undercover officer shortly after these transactions. She was arrested on July 13, 2023, and found in possession of approximately 156 more suspected counterfeit oxycodone pills and $1,500 in cash.

Marks, who is linked to the death of Robert De Niro’s son, was arrested on Friday morning. Leandro De Niro-Rodriguez, 19, passed away in his lower Manhattan apartment on July 2. Marks, referred to as the “Percocet Princess” by anonymous law enforcement sources, appeared in federal court with a federal public defender and did not enter a plea, as reported by Inner City Press.

“The arrest was crucial because, as we allege, Marks was aware that these pills could be lethal, yet she continued to sell them. The investigation is ongoing,” stated Manhattan US Attorney Damian Williams. “Fentanyl is now the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18 to 49, surpassing cancer, car accidents, and gun violence. It is both a law enforcement crisis and a public health crisis, and we are taking every possible measure to combat it.”

The indictment reveals that Marks texted De Niro-Rodriguez at 1:50 p.m. on July 2, long after delivering the drugs, asking if he was okay. However, the victim did not respond.
