Cesar, Cristine, and Marco Express Their Perspectives on Dating and Marriage

Actress Cristine Reyes has expressed that it may be too early to determine the long-term prospects of her relationship with real-life boyfriend and co-actor Marco Gumabao. Despite this, Cristine remains vocal about considering them as an “endgame” couple. In the series “Minsan pa Nating Hagkan ang Nakaraan,” Cristine and Marco portray high-school sweethearts, Helene and Rod, who become engaged but eventually part ways. During a recent Q&A session after a special screening of the show’s pilot week, they were asked about taking their relationship to the next level. Cristine responded with “Ang aga pa,” while Marco confidently replied, “Oo naman! I will not waste my time in a relationship if I don’t see the other person as someone for the endgame. I’ve been single for years, and the press kept asking me why I still didn’t want to have a girlfriend. It was because I was waiting for the right person. I feel it’s Cristine.” Their relationship was publicly confirmed in June.

In the series, Helene eventually marries an older, wealthy man named Cenon Aurelio, played by Cesar Montano. When asked if they consider age to be important in choosing life partners, Marco, who is turning 29 in August, shared, “I prefer women who are older, maybe five years older.” Meanwhile, Cristine, 34, responded, “I’m OK (to date) younger men.”

Cristine also shared her perspective on the show’s theme, stating that life is better when one doesn’t dwell on the past. She emphasized the importance of appreciating what one has instead of focusing on what they lack. Cristine is a mother to her 8-year-old daughter, Amarah, from her previous marriage.

Cesar Montano, whose previous marriage has been annulled, explained why he believes women are often more emotionally ready to commit to relationships compared to men of the same age. He expressed a preference for dating younger women, noting that women tend to mature emotionally faster than men. Cesar added that he chooses to dwell on beautiful memories from his past because they make him feel youthful. He believes in focusing on the positive aspects of life and expressing gratitude in any situation.

Cesar also expressed hope that he will eventually marry the woman he truly loves. He spoke about the joy and sense of commitment that comes with marriage, and he personally prays for that outcome. In the series, Cesar’s character is part of a love triangle involving Cristine’s character, who previously played his daughter in two films. Despite their previous relationship as father and daughter on-screen, Cesar praised Cristine’s acting abilities and believes she will become one of the most important actresses in the industry.

Reflecting on their experiences working on the show, Marco mentioned the challenges of transitioning from film to television. He acknowledged that doing a teleserye requires dedication and effort both on and off-camera. He expressed gratitude for the guidance of the directors and creative team who helped them create a compelling series. For the pilot week of “Minsan pa Nating Hagkan ang Nakaraan,” Marco revealed that the goal was to make the audience feel annoyed with his character, Rod, for leaving Helene. The challenge lies in winning back the love of both Helene and the viewers as the story progresses.

“Minsan pa Nating Hagkan ang Nakaraan” is a TV adaptation of a 1983 film by Marilou Diaz-Abaya. Produced by Sari Sari Network in collaboration with Viva Entertainment, the show premiered on July 25 and airs Mondays to Fridays at 4:40 p.m. on TV5, with encore telecasts at 8 p.m. on Sari Sari Channel.
