Celebrity chef Daniel Humm discreetly sells NYC duplex for $17M off-market

Chef Daniel Humm, renowned for his transformation from honey lavender duck to all-vegan cuisine, recently sold his Greenwich Village duplex penthouse for a staggering $17 million, according to official property records.

Humm, the mastermind behind Eleven Madison Park, consistently ranked as one of the world’s finest dining establishments, purchased the unit at 40 Fifth Ave., situated at the intersection of 11th Street, in 2021 for $14.5 million—exceeding the asking price by half a million dollars.

This investment proved to be lucrative, as Humm managed to secure a hefty profit of $2.5 million in less than two years.

Records indicate that billionaire Randy Lerner is the buyer of the property.

The duplex, occupying the 14th and 15th floors of a distinguished neo-Georgian building dating back to 1929, boasts a four-bedroom, 4½-bath layout.

Notably, Humm’s new residence carries a rich history. He acquired it from the founder of Chipotle, Steve Ells, who himself had purchased the property from Ed Fancher, co-founder of the Village Voice, for $11 million back in 2009.
