CBS Maintains High Ratings with ‘America’s Got Talent’

NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” reclaimed the top spot in prime-time ratings after a five-week hiatus, while “60 Minutes” was the only other program to exceed 4 million viewers.

According to Nielsen’s live-plus-same-day figures released on Tuesday, “America’s Got Talent” attracted an average of 5.676 million viewers, its largest audience since June 27. This marks the show’s third first-place finish this summer and each of its 10 original episodes has been the most-watched entertainment program of the week.

Since its previous first-place finish, “America’s Got Talent” had been surpassed by “60 Minutes,” Fox’s coverage of the MLB All-Star Game, the FIFA Women’s World Cup coverage on Fox and Telemundo, the United States-Netherlands game coverage in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, and NBC’s coverage of the NFL Hall of Fame Game.

“60 Minutes” attracted an average of 4.43 million viewers. The edition featured three segments that had aired previously and were updated for Sunday’s broadcast. This episode followed a 73-minute runover of the PGA Tour’s FedEx St. Jude Championship coverage, which averaged 5.41 million viewers. The runover is considered part of the weekly average and not a separate program.

CBS topped the network race for the seventh time in eight weeks with an average of 2.65 million viewers. NBC finished second with 2.18 million viewers, a week after securing the top spot with the NFL Hall of Fame Game. ABC came in third for the second consecutive week, averaging 2.09 million viewers.

The most-watched program on ABC was “Celebrity Family Feud,” which ranked third for the week with an average of 3.863 million viewers. All three networks aired 22 hours of prime-time programming.

Fox had an average of 1.4 million viewers for its 16 hours and 21 minutes of prime-time programming. The most-watched program on Fox was its regionalized coverage of “Baseball Night in America,” which ranked 34th for the week with an average of 2.305 million viewers. The CW averaged 300,000 viewers for its 14 hours of programming. The most-watched program on The CW was the Canadian drama “Family Law,” with an average of 462,000 viewers.

The CBS musical game show “Superfan” was the most-watched among the two series premieres, attracting an average of 1.395 million viewers. The episode featured five of LL Cool J’s most devoted supporters competing to be crowned his biggest fan. “Fight to Survive,” a social experiment in primitive survivalism with a competitive twist on The CW, averaged 353,000 viewers. Both shows’ overall ranks were not available.
