Cathedral City Resident Accused of Multiple Burglaries Pleads Innocent

A 38-year-old man, Steven Patrick Porter, has pleaded not guilty to felony charges related to multiple burglaries, including thefts from vehicles at the Desert X exhibits. Porter has been charged with one count of vandalism, two counts of burglary, two counts of grand theft over $950, and one count of petty theft.

The investigation into the burglaries began in January by the Palm Desert Burglary Suppression Unit of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. On April 19, Porter was identified as the suspect, leading to the execution of several search warrants with the assistance of the Business District Team and special enforcement teams from the Palm Desert and Rancho Mirage sheriff stations.

As a result of the searches, approximately $70,000 worth of stolen property was recovered. Porter was arrested on April 19 but was released the following day on a $35,000 bail bond.

Felony charges were officially filed against Porter on June 6. According to court records, he is accused of burglarizing an inhabited dwelling and stealing pool equipment with a value exceeding $950 at Desert Willow in Palm Desert on December 20, 2022. He is also suspected of vandalizing property on the same day.

In addition, Porter faces charges of petty theft and grand theft over $950 for stealing a scarf and an iPhone, respectively, as well as the alleged burglary of a 2022 Lincoln Navigator on April 28.

Porter has a felony settlement conference scheduled for July 28, along with his arraignment in a separate case involving one count of grand theft over $950. He does not have any documented felony convictions in Riverside County.
