The event revealed five innovative award winners who each received a portion of the 1 million pounds ($1.2 million) grand prize to scale up their groundbreaking solutions to combat various environmental issues.
The awards featured Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett and other notable celebrities like Donnie Yen, Lana Condor, and environmentalists. The winners came from different backgrounds and developed solutions that address nature protection, clean air, ocean revival, waste elimination, and climate change.
The recipients included companies and initiatives from across the world, from a community-based project in South America to combat deforestation to a Hong Kong-based company developing cleaner and easily recyclable electric vehicle batteries.
The factors considered Prince William, Hannah Waddingham, and Sterling K. Brown atended the awards ceremony. Additionally, the event featured performances from popular bands and singers, showing that addressing environmental issues can be glamorous. The prize was launched in 2020 to stimulate innovative solutions and technologies that combat climate change and environmental degradation. The 13-member council, which includes notable individuals such as Jordan’s Queen Rania, Chinese business magnate Jack Ma, and broadcaster David Attenborough, chose the winners from a pool of 1,100 nominations.
Royal Foundation charity’s 10-year Earthshot program aims to amplify solutions needed to fight climate change. The glitzy ceremony echoed a sustainable theme, with attendees wearing eco-friendly, recycled outfits. The grand occasion came ahead of the COP28 U.N. climate change summit, emphasizing the importance of swift action to combat climate change.
