Case against Amber Heard over pet Yorkshire terriers dropped by Australian prosecutors

Australian prosecutors have decided not to pursue criminal charges against American actor Amber Heard regarding allegations that she lied about how her Yorkshire terriers were smuggled into Australia in 2015. Heard and her then-husband Johnny Depp faced a biosecurity controversy when she brought the dogs to the Gold Coast, where Depp was filming a movie. The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry stated that Heard will not face prosecution for feigning ignorance of the strict quarantine regulations. The department had investigated inconsistencies between Heard’s statements in Australian and London courts regarding the incident. Heard pleaded guilty to providing a false immigration document in 2016 and received a one-month good behavior bond. While prosecutors dropped more serious charges, the department collaborated with international agencies to investigate allegations of false testimony and falsified statutory declarations. Ultimately, no charges will be filed. The dogs, Pistol and Boo, became Heard’s property after her divorce from Depp in 2017.
