Carlos Alcaraz displayed remarkable resilience in his match against Nicolas Jarry at Wimbledon, securing a spot in the last 16.

The Spanish top seed, considered a strong contender to end Novak Djokovic’s dominance at the All England Club, faced difficulties but managed to win with a score of 6-3, 6-7 (6/8), 6-3, 7-5.

Alcaraz took an early lead in the first set with a single break, but fell behind 4-1 in the second set.

Despite the setback, the US Open champion fought back and forced a tie-break, which Jarry, seeded 25th, won.

Alcaraz regrouped and won the third set 6-3, but encountered errors again, finding himself down 3-0 in the fourth.

The young 20-year-old saved two break points in the following game and managed to break Jarry’s serve when his opponent hit a long forehand.

In a pivotal moment, Alcaraz produced a stunning backhand return to break again in the 11th game and served out for the victory.

“I’m extremely pleased with the level of play I displayed during this challenging match,” said Alcaraz.

He added, “It was an incredibly close match. Jarry has impressive shots… I believe that the key is to maintain unwavering belief and focus throughout.”

Alcaraz had to play two matches in consecutive days due to scheduling difficulties caused by heavy rain earlier in the week.

He aims to become the third-youngest player in the Open Era to win the Wimbledon title, following in the footsteps of Boris Becker and Bjorn Borg.
