Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic Dominate US Open – Alexander Zverev Declares Them a League Above, Challenging Others to Catch Up

Alexander Zverev believes Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz are currently on a level of their own, and the other players need to catch up.

A highly anticipated final between Alcaraz and Djokovic, the dominant players of the ATP Tour this season, is now looming.

These two players have already won all three Grand Slams this year and have only lost a combined total of 11 matches throughout the season.

“I played Novak in Cincinnati, I played Carlos here. I think their level of play is very, very similar,” said Zverev about the ATP’s leading duo.

“Novak has certain strengths, and Carlos has certain strengths.

I believe they are currently on a different level. The other players need to catch up. It’s that simple.”

The head-to-head rivalry between Djokovic and Alcaraz is currently tied at 2-2.

However, before they can meet again, they will have to overcome their respective opponents, Daniil Medvedev and Ben Shelton, in the semifinals.

Alcaraz is cautious about looking ahead to another match against Djokovic, acknowledging the tough semifinal against former US Open champion Medvedev.

“It’s closer now compared to the beginning of the tournament,” said Alcaraz.

“It would be amazing to play a final against Novak here in New York, but both of us have challenging semifinals, so let’s see. We both have our sights set on that potential final.”

Alcaraz currently leads the head-to-head record against Medvedev 2-1 and has won their previous two meetings this year in straight sets.

“In our recent matches, I executed my game plan perfectly against Daniil,” he explained.

“I did everything I needed to do against him, so I believe my style of play is well-suited to face opponents like Daniil.

“I will try to replicate what I did in matches like Indian Wells and Wimbledon and aim for the same level of performance and victory.”

Alcaraz, who won his first Grand Slam title at last year’s US Open and became the youngest ATP No. 1 in history, has continued to achieve success, adding another Grand Slam title with a Wimbledon victory.

Reflecting on his growth in the past year, Alcaraz said, “I believe I have become more mature. I have grown a lot since last year.

“Last year, I faced my first Grand Slam semifinal. Now, I’m facing my fourth one. I feel like a completely different player.

“Even though I won my first Grand Slam last year and reached the final, I feel like I am more mature. I handle the pressure and these big moments better.

“I feel like I am a different person and player.”
