Oct. 6 (UPI) — A surprising encounter took place at a Florida harbor when a black bear climbed onto a sailboat’s deck, as captured in a remarkable photograph.

Todd Dillman, the owner of TowBoat U.S. Naples-Marco Island, was maneuvering a barge at the Naples Sailing and Yacht Club when he spotted the unexpected sight of a bear swimming in the water.

“We often come across saltwater crocs, alligators, even sharks, but this is a first,” Dillman told WBBH-TV. “It’s something you wouldn’t believe unless you saw it with your own eyes.”

To Dillman’s surprise, the bear soon ventured onto the deck of a sailboat, providing a unique spectacle for all who witnessed it.

Dillman managed to capture footage of the bear exploring the catamaran and shared it on his business’ Facebook page.

“I sat here for like an hour and he was just going front to back on the boat,” he said. “He’s just hanging out, walking back and forth, across the bow.”

The presence of the bear soon attracted a crowd of curious onlookers.

“News started spreading that there was a bear on the docks. And I thought, ‘No way. That can’t be true,'” said Manny Blanco, the yacht club’s general manager. “But when I went to the docks, there it was, a bear on a boat. I’ve seen alligators in the marina, dolphins, manatees, but never a bear.”

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is closely monitoring the bear’s movements to ensure its safe return to the wilderness, according to Naples Daily News.
