An emergency landing was made by an Air China plane in Singapore after its engine caught fire, causing the cabin to fill with smoke.

Singapore’s Changi Airport reported in a statement that Air China flight CA403, en route from China to Singapore, experienced smoke in the forward cargo hold and lavatory. The plane declared an emergency and was given priority to land at the airport.

“After landing, emergency slides of the aircraft were deployed for expeditious evacuation,” stated the airport.

The airport’s emergency service extinguished a fire in the left engine of the plane. The incident resulted in a temporary closure of the runway.

Passenger clips have been circulating on X, formerly Twitter.

In one of the clips, passengers can be seen adopting the brace position in their seats. Some passengers used paper napkins to cover their mouths and noses. The cabin was filled with white smoke, resulting in poor visibility.

Later in the video, passengers are shown evacuating the plane using the emergency slides.

Changi Airport confirmed that all 146 passengers and nine crew members were safely evacuated.

“During the evacuation process, nine passengers suffered minor injuries from smoke inhalation and abrasions,” stated the airport. “They have received medical attention.”

The Singapore Transport Safety Investigation Bureau is conducting an investigation into the incident and has reached out to its counterpart in China for assistance, according to Changi Airport.

No comment has been given by representatives of Air China at this time.
