Canadian Security Chief splurges $57 million on exclusive Napa winery – Adding to his impressive collection!

Stephan Crétier, the Canadian billionaire entrepreneur and founder of the GardaWorld global security empire, has recently acquired the Vine Cliff Winery in Napa, California for over $57 million. This historic family winery spans 100 acres and is located on a hillside east of the Silverado Trail.

The Vine Cliff Winery is situated in the Oakville American Viticultural Area and is capable of producing up to 48,000 gallons of wine annually. Its offerings include various vintages such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Malbec, and Riesling.

The property also features 23 acres of planted vineyards, caves, a pond, and a residence on a hill.

Crétier, through his company SCW Fund Corp., quietly registered the acquisition in August. This marks his second winery purchase in California’s renowned wine region. He and his wife, Stephany Maillery, have been the owners of Roy Estate winery since 2017.

Vine Cliff Winery holds historical significance in the Napa region, as it is one of the first wineries established in the area in 1871. The winery was known as a “ghost winery” due to its storied past.

The previous owners of Vine Cliff Winery were Nell and Charles (Chuck) Sweeney, the founder of the Landmark Hotels chain. The Sweeneys had owned the winery since 1985.

While Crétier has not publicly commented on his plans for Vine Cliff, his acquisition has generated attention in the industry. He has managed to keep a low profile as the buyer by using a corporate shell.

Crétier, who holds an MBA degree from the University of California, founded GardaWorld in 1995. The company has since become a leading global provider of security and armoured car cash transport services, employing over 122,000 individuals in 45 countries.

Crétier and his wife currently reside in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. They are also active in philanthropy and have supported the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts through their charitable foundation.
