California-based Alef Aeronautics has obtained a special certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to enable its Model A flying car to undertake flights for research and development. Alef Aeronautics, in a recent announcement, stated that it has become the first company to gain FAA clearance for a flying vehicle that can drive on public roads and park like a regular car. The FAA has granted a special airworthiness certificate to the Model A, allowing for purposes such as research, development, and exhibition. Alef CEO Jim Dukhovny expressed excitement about the achievement, emphasizing the potential for environmentally friendly and speedy commutes that could save individuals and companies significant time. The Model A, inspired by the technology depicted in the film Back to the Future Part II, has been in development since 2015. Pre-orders for the Model A are currently being accepted, and it is expected to hit the market in 2025 with an approximate price of $300,000. It should be noted that the Model A has not received certification for road travel by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration yet.
