C.J. Stroud’s impressive performance outshines Joe Burrow in an unforgettable showdown with potential for future rivalries

To rise to the elite ranks of AFC quarterbacks, you need a unique skillset. Just 10 games into his professional career, C.J. Stroud seems to fit the bill.

Stroud and the Texans headed to Cincinnati, where they faced the Bengals in a game many presumed would be an easy win for Cincy. However, Stroud delivered a dazzling performance, outshining Joe Burrow and leading Houston to a winning field goal drive for a 30-27 victory.

Normally, head-to-head battles between quarterbacks don’t carry as much hype as they should. It’s a comparison of skill, not a direct confrontation. But Stroud showed up big against Burrow. It was a back-and-forth display of talent, with Burrow beginning the scoring with a magnificent 32-yard pass to Trenton Irwin.

Stroud and the Texans countered with 20 unanswered points, silencing the Cincinnati crowd. While Stroud had shown similar skill in college, it was a whole new ballgame to see him do it as an NFL rookie.

When it comes to the best quarterbacks, victories and statistics are irrelevant. What matters are playoff performances and championships. Burrow is inching towards that level with a Super Bowl appearance and two conference championships in his first three seasons.

Burrow’s magic was on full display with a remarkable 64-yard pass to Ja’Marr Chase, showcasing his ability to create brilliance out of chaos. Stroud, however, still faces some rookie challenges, including a late interception that nearly cost the game.

With only 93 seconds left in the game, Stroud orchestrated a winning drive, securing the Texans’ fifth victory of the year. His performance, including a total of 356 passing yards, is bringing him close to the MVP conversation, with impressive rookie stats.

Moving forward, Stroud will likely be the dominant quarterback in the Texans’ remaining games. The only question is not whether Stroud belongs among the best, but how high he ranks on that list.
