June 23 (UPI) — Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held productive discussions with numerous business leaders on his final day of the state visit to Washington.
Prominent CEOs such as Sundar Pichai of Google, Satya Nadella of Microsoft, and Tim Cook of Apple were among the prominent figures who interacted with Modi and President Joe Biden in the East Room of the White House.
“Our countries are forging new frontiers in innovation and collaboration,” Biden stated, as reported by Bloomberg. “This progress has been made possible by the individuals gathered at this table.”
The Biden administration also appealed to these business leaders for assistance in regulating artificial intelligence.
“We seek your assistance in establishing safeguards around emerging technologies to ensure their trustworthiness, security, and alignment with our shared values and human rights,” Biden emphasized.
Bill Nelson, NASA Administrator; Lisa Su, CEO of AMD; and Gina Raimondo, Secretary of Commerce, were also present at the meeting on Friday.
Following the meeting, the prime minister had separate meetings with Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Harris lauded India’s global impact, particularly highlighting the role of Indian-made vaccines in saving lives in Southeast Asia.
“India’s engagement on the global stage has not only benefitted its own citizens but also the people of the United States and individuals around the world,” Harris remarked
Later in the day, Modi is scheduled to address business leaders at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts.
On Thursday, President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden hosted a state dinner for Modi. The event was attended by notable figures such as fashion icon Ralph Lauren, former U.S. tennis star Billie Jean King, director M. Night Shyamalan, and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, among others.
During the dinner, President Biden expressed his appreciation for the U.S.-India partnership, while Modi greeted the attendees with a traditional Indian Namaskaar greeting and thanked the first lady for her efforts in making the dinner a success.
