Burning Man Organizers Plan to Deploy Cell Phone Trailers and Buses for Trapped Attendees

  • Following a rainstorm on Friday night, thousands of people are currently stranded at the Burning Man festival.
  • The festival organizers have anticipated such events and claim to have made necessary preparations.
  • To assist the stranded attendees, the organizers are deploying resources including internet access and buses to Reno.

Tens of thousands of people at the Burning Man Festival in Black Rock Desert, Nevada may be stranded, leading to the deployment of mobile cell trailers and buses by festival organizers, according to a statement provided to Insider.

A rainstorm on Friday caused muddy conditions and heavy flooding, resulting in the closure of the festival entrance. Attendees were instructed to stay in their current location and conserve resources.

These conditions pose health risks such as hypothermia, stomach bugs, and food-borne illnesses, especially if the storm persists, as warned by a physician who had previously attended Burning Man.

The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office informed NBC News that a festival attendee died during the rainstorm, although no cause has been disclosed yet.

Festival spokesperson Dominique Debucquoy-Dodley has stated that the organizers have conducted drills in preparation for such events and are prioritizing the safe exit of attendees.

In the meantime, mobile cell trailers have been strategically placed to provide internet access, and buses are being deployed to transport people from Gerlach to Reno.

No specific number of buses has been mentioned by Debucquoy-Dodley.

The organizers will continue to update the community through various communication channels including staff networks, community networks, Burning Man Information Radio (BMIR), and social media platforms.

An attendee named Angie Peacock, part of a camp of 300 people, stated that they have been rationing resources, and if necessary, they can sustain themselves until Wednesday. However, Peacock has not received information about cell signal trailers or buses.

Insider reached out to representatives for Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo and the state’s National Guard for comment, but no response has been received yet.
