Burger King Thailand announced the arrival of “The Real Cheeseburger” on social media, assuring customers that it’s not a joke. They described it as a flavorful delight for cheese lovers. Priced at a reduced rate of 109 Thai baht ($4.70), this cheesy creation quickly went viral, attracting many customers who wanted to experience it for themselves. In fact, one Burger King location in Bangkok had to stop accepting delivery orders due to overwhelming demand, ensuring they had enough stock for walk-in diners.

However, viral fame doesn’t necessarily equate to a delectable meal. Many customers who tried “The Real Cheeseburger” found it difficult to finish more than a few bites. Eric E Surbano, a reporter for Lifestyle Asia, wrote a scathing review of the burger, stating that he could only tolerate two mouthfuls before throwing it away. According to Surbano, the burger lacked sauce and was simply dry and revolting. He also found fault with the use of processed cheese in a product boasting the name “Real Cheeseburger.”

Surbano couldn’t help but question why Burger King would create such a burger, speculating that they might have a surplus of cheese or simply harbor ill feelings towards their customers. Richard Barrow, a popular Thai travel guide and blogger, also shared his struggle in consuming even half of the burger, suggesting that grilling the remaining portion might improve the experience.

Customers who sampled the burger in-store echoed these sentiments. Im Jeepetch, an IT engineer, admitted that while she loves cheese, the amount in “The Real Cheeseburger” was excessive, and she could only finish half of it. Similarly, skincare entrepreneur Alisa Chuengviroj found the burger too intense, stating that she may not give it another try.

Overall, Burger King Thailand’s attempt at a cheese-filled sensation has garnered attention and divided opinions. While some cheese enthusiasts may find it appealing, most customers have found the excessive amount of cheese off-putting. Whether this risky offering will continue to be a hit remains to be seen.
