Burger King Thailand Launches No-Meat, Cheese-Only Burger: A Delicious Alternative

Is there such a thing as an excessive amount of cheese? The customers at Burger King in Thailand may have differing opinions on the matter. Burger King Thailand recently unveiled the “real cheeseburger,” a unique creation consisting of up to 20 slices of processed American cheese sandwiched between two sesame hamburger buns. This cheesy delight is devoid of any other toppings, sauces, or fillings – it’s purely a cheese lover’s dream.

Burger King Thailand describes the “real cheeseburger” as being full of flavor for those with a passion for cheese, emphasizing that it’s not for the faint-hearted. Currently, the cheeseburger is priced at a discounted rate of 190 Baht (C$4.15), with the regular price being 380 Baht (nearly C$14.50).

Since its launch, the cheeseburger has quickly gained viral status, attracting curious Thai citizens to sample this outrageously cheesy sandwich. One Thai user even shared a video on TikTok, initially thinking it was a joke. In the video, he shows approximately 20 slices of American cheese stacked on his burger, describing it as both greasy and surprisingly delicious.

Burger King Thailand assures its customers that the “real cheeseburger” is indeed a genuine menu item, dismissing any notion of it being a prank. However, those brave enough to try this cheese-filled creation have found it to be overwhelming. Thailand-based travel guide and blogger Richard Barrow tweeted about his struggle to eat even half of the burger, jokingly suggesting grilling the other half instead.

Eric E. Surbano, a writer at Lifestyle Asia who also sampled the “real cheeseburger,” described it as dry and a shock to the digestive system, representing a thousand unnecessary processed cheese calories.

While cheese is not a staple in Thai cuisine, the cheese market in Thailand reportedly reached a value of over US$110 million (more than C$145 million) in 2023. It is a trendy ingredient among young Thai citizens, even though the average Thai is expected to consume only 80 grams of cheese this year.

In contrast, Canadians are known for their love of cheese, with the average person estimated to consume around 13.5 kilograms in 2023 alone. Perhaps Burger King should consider bringing their “real cheeseburger” to Canada, although the lactose-filled menu item might not be everyone’s cup of tea.
