Brodie, the Goldendoodle, Enjoys a Luxurious First-Class Journey with His Owner

Cliff Brush, the jet-setting content creator, embarks on global adventures alongside his famous furry companion, Brodie the Goldendoodle. Flying high in first-class, they relish in the attention Brodie receives from flight attendants, pilots, and even TSA agents. In this as-told-to essay, Cliff shares his journey from a corporate job to a full-time traveler, thanks to Brodie’s social media stardom.

Brodie, a lovable character, compelled me to join the world of social media. With every outing, crowds clamored to capture pictures and videos of him in all his glory. Witnessing this adoration, I knew that Brodie’s presence would captivate people online just as effortlessly.

My desire to explore new places was always derailed by the constraints of a typical nine-to-five job. But after resigning, Brodie and I embarked on a road trip across the country, igniting our passion for travel. We ventured west to Los Angeles and then experienced the vibrant atmosphere of New York City. Now, we’re frequently invited by brands and events who yearn for Brodie’s charismatic presence. Our travel frequency has escalated, with a journey occurring at least once a month. It’s a delightful opportunity to create engaging content while ensuring Brodie revels in the experience.

Among the many inquiries we receive, the most common question pertains to flying with a large dog. Luckily, Brodie serves as my service animal, granting him access to the cabin of any airliner. This privilege allows us to fly together comfortably. Having accumulated over a hundred flights in the past two years, we’ve discovered the most suitable arrangements for both of us, as well as our fellow passengers. Economy class is no longer a viable option due to Brodie’s size, so we opt for first-class seats. Occasionally, Brodie enjoys his own seat, but typically one seat suffices. He tucks himself beneath my legs, peacefully slumbering throughout the flight. Passengers often express surprise as they witness us boarding the plane, only to find Brodie settling comfortably within the limited legroom space.

Alternatively, we can manage with a full row in economy, though it’s not our preference. Regardless, the pivotal factor for Brodie is his desire to remain by my side. His easygoing nature complements this longing, as he willingly adapts to various situations. As long as we’re together, Brodie exudes contentment.

During flights, Brodie silently journeys, never uttering a sound from Miami to LA. Passengers seated nearby often express amazement, having failed to notice the giant fluff just a few rows ahead. Overall, fellow travelers have been overwhelmingly positive, although one incident did involve an unhappy seatmate. However, a devoted Brodie fan quickly offered to switch seats, resolving the situation amicably.

For pet parents hoping to travel with their large dogs, the cabin becomes a restricted area if the dog isn’t a service animal. Small dogs, meanwhile, can accompany their owners in carriers placed under seats. These limitations pose challenges for those with large dogs. Cargo transportation is an option, though I personally find it unfavorable for Brodie’s safety. Consequently, alternative methods involve specific destinations and routes via smaller airlines. Alternatively, high-cost private flights cater to dog owners with limited options.

Surprisingly, hotels present more roadblocks during our travels than flights. However, the market does offer pet-friendly accommodations, and we lean toward trusted chains like Hilton when making reservations.

Being accompanied by a famous dog initiates a flurry of picture-taking with devoted fans. Our frequent travels and loyalty to a particular airline have made Brodie a recognizable figure among flight attendants and pilots, with some even knowing him by name. Once, a pilot, a devoted Brodie enthusiast, captured a photo of him in the cockpit, sporting a pilot’s hat. After settling into our seats, the pilot announced our presence over the intercom, sharing the photo with his ecstatic daughter.

Even TSA agents have become familiar with Brodie, often amused by his jovial presence. Sometimes, I am permitted to guide him through the metal detector, while other times, they prefer him to walk through independently. Occasionally, he undergoes a pat-down to ensure his fluff conceals no contraband.

Airports serve as prime locations for Brodie’s admirers to request countless photos. It’s an easily recognizable sight, and thus, we must arrive earlier to accommodate the impromptu photoshoots, scratches, and cuddles. Whenever an escalator requires our ascent, I cradle Brodie like a life-size teddy bear, delighting both him and onlookers.

It’s essential to recognize that many service dog handlers prefer their animals not be petted while they work. However, Brodie transcends this traditional role. He is not only my closest companion and a cherished family member; he has become a beloved celebrity, eagerly anticipated by enthusiastic fans. Thus, when given the opportunity to meet him, admirers can’t resist offering pets and capturing memorable moments. And, of course, I happily oblige their wishes.
