After conquering difficulties during a rough stretch, Brock Purdy has excelled despite skeptics in San Francisco’s recent victories over the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The young quarterback attributes the upswing to a shift in mindset, embracing an underdog mentality to prove he can lead the team. “I had to get back to, man, we’ve got to go take it. We’ve got to go earn it every single game. It doesn’t matter who we’re playing, it’s the NFL. Anything can happen on any Sunday,” Purdy said after the win over the Buccaneers.
Claiming a perfect passer rating of 158.3, Purdy joined 49ers legends Joe Montana and Steve Young as the only quarterbacks in franchise history. Additionally, as the only 49ers quarterback to achieve this while throwing 20 or more pass attempts, he has proven himself as the “the guy” for San Francisco.
Teammate Christian McCaffrey appreciates seeing the quarterback play with intensity, encouraging him amid criticism. Coach Kyle Shanahan’s faith in Purdy did not falter, even during the quarterback’s three-game struggles and late-game interceptions.
With a record of 7-3, the 49ers face the challenge of a tough three-game gauntlet ahead, starting with a game against the Seahawks in a crucial NFC match-up.
