Broadway Star Chris Peluso, Known for ‘Wicked’ and ‘Mamma Mia!’, Passes Away at Age 40 – Billboard

Broadway has lost a talented performer as actor and singer Chris Peluso, known for his roles in musicals such as Mamma Mia! and Elton John’s Lestat, has passed away at the age of 40. According to Playbill, Peluso’s family confirmed his death on August 15th. He had taken a break from theater work a year earlier to seek treatment for schizoaffective disorder. At the time of writing, Billboard has not independently confirmed his passing.

The University of Michigan, where Peluso studied musical theater, posted a tribute on their Instagram page. They stated, “The Michigan Musical Theatre family is heartbroken as we announce the passing of our dear family member and alum, the loving, charismatic, and incredibly talented Chris Peluso… Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.”

Peluso made a name for himself on Broadway as an understudy in the 2004 Tony-winning revival of Assassins and in the roles of Louis and Nicolas in Lestat. He later joined the ensemble for the original touring company of Wicked in 2005, played Fiyero in a 2009 national tour, and took on roles such as Sky in Mamma Mia!, Marius in Les Miserables, and Tony in West Side Story.
