British Nurse Found Guilty of Murdering Seven Babies in Her Care: Lucy Letby’s Chilling Admission

A British nurse named Lucy Letby has been convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to kill six others while working at a hospital. Letby, 33, engaged in various harmful actions against the babies in her care, including injecting air into their blood and stomachs, overfeeding them with milk, physically assaulting them, and poisoning them with insulin. One of the babies she murdered was a boy identified as Child E, whom she killed by administering air into his bloodstream. The next day, she attempted to kill his twin brother, Child F, by poisoning him with insulin.

Letby’s actions were discovered when police found handwritten notes at her home, including one that confessed, “I am evil I did this.” She secretly attacked 13 babies in the neonatal ward at the Countess of Chester hospital between 2015 and 2016, with the intention of killing them and making it appear as though the deaths were natural.

Prosecutors described Letby’s actions as a “complete betrayal of the trust” placed in her and said she “perverted her learning and weaponized her craft to inflict harm, grief, and death.” The families of the victims expressed their devastation, stating that losing a baby under any circumstances is heartbreaking, but losing a baby or having a baby harmed in this way is unimaginable.

Letby was previously arrested in connection with the investigation in 2018 and 2019 and was arrested again in November 2020. Her handwritten notes revealed her feelings of guilt and self-loathing, with statements like “I don’t deserve to live” and “I am a horrible evil person.”

The hospital initially dismissed concerns raised by consultants regarding the increased mortality rate of babies under Letby’s care. It wasn’t until doctors noticed a rise in the number of baby deaths and collapses that the hospital contacted the police, leading to the investigation.

The UK government has ordered an independent inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths and incidents, as well as the handling of concerns raised by clinicians and regulators. The voices of the victims’ parents will be heard throughout the inquiry, as there are many questions that need answers.

Letby will be sentenced on August 21, and the families of the victims acknowledged that while justice has been served, the pain and distress they have experienced cannot be undone. They expressed their heartbreak, devastation, anger, and numbness over the situation.
