Breast Cancer Survivor from New York Uncovers Unexpected Disease Indicator

New York Woman Discovers Surprising Sign of Breast Cancer That Wasn’t a Lump

A woman from New York, who successfully battled breast cancer in her 30s, has shared an unexpected sign of the disease.

Instead of the typical breast cancer symptom—a lump—Megan Liscomb, 37, noticed visual changes in her breast.

At first, she attributed these changes to the natural aging process according to her first-person piece on Buzzfeed.

A leading health panel recently recommended lowering the age of regular breast cancer screening from 50 to 40.

However, Ms. Liscomb believes that these screenings come too late for younger cancer patients like herself. That’s why she emphasizes the importance of recognizing the signs to watch out for.

She noticed that her right breast was sagging while the left one remained in its normal position. Attributing it to the natural aging process, she didn’t think much of it.

One day, while removing her bra, she discovered that her left breast was folded in half inside the cup with the nipple sunken in the middle.

Upon self-examination, she noticed a bulge on one side of her left breast. Additionally, when she lifted her arm, she observed dents appearing in her breast.

The first doctor she visited reassured her that it was normal after feeling her breasts. However, she felt somewhat patronized by him and left the appointment feeling embarrassed for overreacting.

A few months later, she sought a second opinion from another doctor who immediately sent her for an ultrasound and mammogram.

The ultrasound technician’s reaction made Megan realize the seriousness of the situation. She was offered a same-day biopsy, confirming her suspicions.

The diagnosis revealed stage two invasive lobular carcinoma, the second most common form of breast cancer accounting for around 10 percent of cases.

Fortunately, Megan Liscomb’s cancer was curable, and she is currently cancer-free.
