A 27-year-old man has been charged with participating in a home-invasion robbery in Westminster, which has shocked the community.
Danny Sommay, the alleged perpetrator, faces multiple felony charges, including one count of kidnapping to commit robbery and five counts of robbery. Court records reveal that he will also face sentencing enhancements for using a gun and a stun gun during the attack.
The incident took place on Monday night at around 10:40 p.m. in the 8900 block of Pebble Beach Circle. A resident of the neighborhood urgently called 911 and whispered for help. This prompted the swift response of law enforcement officers.
Upon the arrival of the officers, they witnessed four masked suspects fleeing the location through the front door, all of them brandishing firearms.
While trying to escape, Sommay was captured by the police. In a desperate attempt to discard evidence, he threw his stolen 9mm handgun over a brick wall.
Unfortunately, the other suspects managed to evade capture and are currently on the run.
The victims of this terrifying ordeal include an elderly woman, a 14-year-old boy, and a 7-year-old girl.
According to the authorities, the armed robbers forcibly entered the victims’ residence and immediately overpowered a man, using a stun gun to intimidate him. They proceeded to restrain four other individuals in the living room while demanding to be shown all valuable possessions in the house. Fortunately, a quick-thinking woman managed to hide in a closet and dialed 911.
At his arraignment in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana, Sommay did not enter a plea. The hearing has been rescheduled for September 21 in the West Justice Center in Westminster.
