Breaking News: UAW Members Overwhelmingly Reject Contract Deal with Mack Trucks; Strike Looms from Monday Onwards!

Union workers at Mack Trucks plan to go on strike at 7 a.m. Monday after rejecting a five-year contract agreement reached with the company, according to the United Auto Workers union. The president of the union, Shawn Fain, wrote a letter expressing that 73% of workers voted against the deal in the Sunday count.

In the letter, Fain stated, “UAW members and workers across the economy are mobilizing to demand their fair share. Although we have been in discussions with the company to address our members’ concerns, we have not yet reached a satisfactory agreement.”

The UAW represents approximately 4,000 Mack workers in three states. A tentative agreement on the deal was reached by union leaders on October 1, which included a 19% pay raise over the contract’s duration.

Mack president Stephen Roy expressed surprise and disappointment at the union’s decision to strike, stating, “We believe the strike is unnecessary. We are dedicated to the collective bargaining process and have confidence that we can find a solution that provides competitive wages and benefits while ensuring our future as a stable and competitive company.”

In his letter to Volvo Trucks’ head of labor relations, Fain mentioned that employees working on Monday morning will complete necessary tasks before leaving the factories to prevent damage to company equipment. The striking workers are located in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Florida.

In addition to the Mack strike, thousands of UAW members across 20 states are already on strike as the union negotiates with major automakers.
