Breaking News: Terror Suspect Finally Apprehended After Daring Escape From Custody

The capture of Daniel Abed Khalife, a 21-year-old terror suspect who had escaped from Wandsworth prison in London, has finally been made. He was apprehended in the Chiswick area of the city at approximately 11am on Saturday, as confirmed by the Independent. Metropolitan Police tweeted that Khalife is currently in police custody. Law enforcement had focused their search on Chiswick after receiving potential sightings of the escaped prisoner. The district is located around 7 miles from the prison.

According to the AP, there was a $25,000 reward for information leading to Khalife’s capture. He has been charged with planting fake bombs at a military base and gathering information that could benefit Iran, though it’s unclear if any specific tip will make them eligible for the cash. The New York Times reported that the manhunt for Khalife was one of the largest in recent British history, involving the participation of hundreds of police officers searching British airports, railway stations, ports, and even the Chunnel.

Khalife, a former army soldier, managed to evade authorities for an extended period, potentially due to special skills he possesses. Dominic Murphy, chief of the Met’s counterterrorism unit, told the Times that Khalife’s escape indicated advance planning, and it hasn’t been ruled out that he may have received help from within the prison. It is estimated that there have been fewer than 20 prison escapes in the UK since 2010. (Read more prison break stories.)
