Breaking News: Samsung Galaxy S24 to Launch Ahead of Schedule, Confirms Report

Recent rumors suggest that Samsung is set to launch the Galaxy S24 ahead of schedule, and it appears these rumors are true. A new report from South Korea confirms that Samsung will unveil its next-generation flagship smartphone series in January 2024, as an effort to compensate for the underperformance of its semiconductor chip division.

Galaxy S24 Launch Date: January 17, 2024

A report from SBS Biz reveals that Samsung has scheduled the launch of the Galaxy S24 for January 17, 2024, in San Francisco, USA. According to the report, the company has finalized its plans for the launch event and has already begun preparations. It also confirms that the Galaxy S23 FE will make its debut in South Korea on December 1, 2023, with a price tag of KRW 800,000 (approximately $600). This will mark the first Fan Edition release of the Galaxy S series in South Korea in three years. Despite the South Korean market’s preference for high-end smartphones, Samsung has decided to introduce the Galaxy S23 FE as an affordable model due to the current economic downturn and slow market conditions.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Design

The Galaxy S24 series is seen by the South Korean company as its salvation during these challenging times. The report indicates that the Galaxy S24 will be an ‘AI Phone’, incorporating Generative AI technology like ChatGPT and Dall-E. Samsung has already unveiled its in-house Exynos 2400 processor, boasting a 30% faster GPU, 70% faster GPU, and 14.7x faster NPU. This allows for on-device AI processing, enabling impressive Generative AI features such as text-to-image conversion. Additionally, rumors suggest that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will feature a titanium frame, similar to Apple’s new iPhone 15 Pro series. All devices in the series are expected to include Dynamic AMOLED 2x LTPO screens with a peak brightness of 2,500 nits.

Traditionally, Samsung releases its new Galaxy S series phones at the end of February and begins shipping them in early March. However, the company broke the pattern with the early February launch and subsequent shipping of the Galaxy S23. Now, with the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung is pushing for an even earlier launch in mid-January 2024, with devices potentially shipping by the end of that month.

Author’s Note: Samsung’s semiconductor chip division has historically been the primary revenue driver for the company. However, in the past year, the market slump has led to decreased demand for semiconductor chips, resulting in low sales volumes and reduced chip prices. As a consequence, Samsung Electronics’ overall operating profit in Q1 2023 plunged by 96%, while its semiconductor division reported its first-ever loss in Q2 2023. Fortunately, solid sales of high-end smartphones like the Galaxy S23, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Z Fold 5 have partially offset this significant loss.

Despite performing well during the pre-order phase, sales of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 reportedly declined below expectations. Hence, launching the Galaxy S24 series earlier than usual could serve as a strategy to compensate for reduced sales volume. Additionally, this move may help Samsung counter the competition posed by Apple’s iPhone 15 lineup.
