Breaking News: Jason Billingsley Arrested for Shocking CEO Pava LaPere Murder

Authorities have apprehended a man, Jason Dean Billingsley, suspected of the brutal murder of Baltimore tech CEO Pava LaPere and a separate, near-fatal attack and rape that occurred only a week earlier.

Billingsley, 32, was arrested at around 11 p.m. on Wednesday in Bowie, Maryland, which is northeast of Washington, D.C. The Baltimore Banner reported the arrest, citing information from U.S. Marshals.

The Baltimore Police Department has scheduled a press conference for Thursday morning, during which they plan to provide further details about the arrest.

Billingsley became a suspect in LaPere’s murder after the police named him on Tuesday. LaPere was found dead with blunt-force injuries in her apartment building on Monday. The motive for the attack has not been disclosed.

The police also revealed that Billingsley was wanted for an attempted murder, arson, and rape that occurred on September 19, six days before LaPere’s body was discovered. Evidence from the earlier investigation linked Billingsley to LaPere’s death.

In the previous attack, a man and a woman were reportedly critically injured, and a 5-year-old child was treated for smoke inhalation after their home was set on fire. The victims were ambushed by an armed man pretending to be a maintenance worker, who then restrained and harmed them. The woman was also raped and injured before they were set ablaze.

Billingsley had been released on parole in October of last year after serving part of a 30-year sentence for a first-degree sex offense. He had previous convictions for assault as well. The Baltimore Banner reported that Billingsley is listed on Maryland’s sex offender registry.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott expressed his frustration with the situation, stating that Billingsley should never have been released from prison. He emphasized the need to address repeat offenders and prevent them from continuing to commit crimes.
