Culberson, who was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett on May 19 but had yet to play in a major league game, will likely want to forget this Father’s Day experience.
After Culberson’s departure, the father of Braves outfielder Michael Harris II stepped in to handle the first pitch duties at Truist Park. Harris had an impressive performance, going 5-for-5 and scoring three times in the Braves’ 14-6 victory over the Colorado Rockies.
Culberson, a first-round pick of the San Francisco Giants in the 2007 MLB Draft, made his debut with the team in 2012. He was traded to the Colorado Rockies before the 2013 season and spent two seasons with the team. Culberson then played for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2016 and 2017 before joining the Braves.
During his three seasons with the Braves from 2018 to 2020, Culberson had a .265 batting average with 17 home runs and 63 runs scored. He then joined the Texas Rangers for the 2021 season and played with them until the 2022 season.
In his recent stint with Triple-A Gwinnett, Culberson had a .204 batting average, a .489 OPS, and a home run in 24 games before being designated for assignment.
