A man from Florida has been apprehended and formally charged with murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend. Police received a distress call on July 17, reporting the discovery of the lifeless body of Joysee Cartagena inside her residence. Upon arrival, the Sanford Fire and Rescue personnel found Cartagena with a zip tie tightly fastened around her neck. Despite their attempts to save her, she was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy conducted by the Lake County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that the cause of death was manual strangulation.

Cartagena’s son, Steven Rivera Cartagena, shared his grief over losing his mother—a woman who selflessly cared for him and dedicated herself to helping others through her work at Seminole County Public Schools and JetBlue. Rivera Cartagena stated that he would honor his mother’s memory by pursuing his dream of becoming a doctor. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist with his college expenses.
