Boris Johnson’s COVID response: A ‘mad and dangerous’ verdict by a leading official

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Handling of COVID-19 Deemed “Mad and Dangerous” by Government Official

London – In a shocking revelation, it has been disclosed that former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s approach to tackling the COVID-19 pandemic was not only “mad and dangerous” but also hindered the country’s ability to effectively combat the virus. These damning statements were made by Simon Case, the highest-ranking civil servant in the British government, during discussions with officials as part of an ongoing inquiry into the handling of the pandemic.

The inquiry, which aims to shed light on the government’s response to the worst global health crisis in nearly a century, unveiled the exchanges between Case and his colleagues. In one instance, Case expressed his concerns about Johnson’s leadership capabilities and his inability to make decisive decisions, stating that “he cannot lead and we cannot support him under these circumstances. The team captain cannot change the call on the big plays every day.” Furthermore, Case emphasized the urgency of the situation by stating, in capital letters, “IT HAS TO STOP”.

This revelation is not the first to expose Johnson’s controversial handling of the pandemic. Case even drew comparisons between Johnson and U.S. President Donald Trump and Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, both of whom were known for downplaying the severity of the virus. Describing Johnson’s approach as “mad and dangerous,” Case implied that it mirrored the reckless attitude exhibited by Trump and Bolsonaro.

The testimonies provided by senior officials have shed light on the dysfunctionality and misogyny rampant within Johnson’s government during the crisis. Martin Reynolds, Johnson’s former principal private secretary, highlighted the need for reform and remarked on the culture of chaos and mistreatment of women within the government. Reynolds acknowledged that a report was drafted in May 2020, suggesting changes to address the government’s flawed handling of the initial stages of the pandemic. He agreed that the report exposed a “lack of discipline, chaos, and a significant degree of misogyny” within the government.

As the inquiry continues, senior officials will continue to testify, revealing the inner workings of Johnson’s administration during the pandemic. While Johnson himself has yet to speak on the matter, it is clear that his government’s approach to combating COVID-19 has been heavily criticized and marred by controversy.
