Bonny Fire Containment Reaches 95% with Full Containment Anticipated by Monday

The containment of the Bonny Fire, located southeast of Aguanga, has increased to 95% as of Thursday, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. Full containment is still expected by Monday.

This increase in containment was reported at 7 p.m., marking the first update since the 7 a.m. update when containment increased from 80% to 90%.

All mandatory evacuation orders related to the fire were lifted on Wednesday as firefighters continued their work, reinforcing containment lines and addressing hot spots.

As of 3 p.m. on Wednesday, the evacuation orders were no longer required for properties north of the San Diego County line and south of Ramsey Road. However, evacuation warnings still remain in effect for the area south of Bowers Road, north of Rim Rock Road, east of Bonny, and west of Chapman Road.

Crews involved in fighting the Bonny Fire were released on Wednesday afternoon to assist in battling brush fires in Sage and Cabazon.

The brush fire initially started last Thursday afternoon in the vicinity of Bonny and Barber lanes, near the Cahuilla Indian Reservation.

On Friday, the fire came close to Chapman and Johnston roads, but Cal Fire air tankers and water-dropping helicopters successfully protected nearby homes from damage. One outbuilding and a vehicle were destroyed.

Over the weekend, one firefighter sustained minor injuries.

At its peak, around 2,000 personnel were on the ground, including county engine and hand crews, as well as firefighters from various departments. Hot shot crews from Kern County were also deployed to the sparsely populated area.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
