Bobby Lee Recollects Being Overwhelmed by Cannabis, Unable to Read Lines for Scene With Sarah Jessica Parker in ‘And Just Like That’

Bobby Lee reflects on a pivotal moment during the production of “And Just Like That” that led him down the path of sobriety. In an interview with Rachel Bilson on her show “Broad Ideas,” the actor, known for his role as Jackie Nee, Carrie Bradshaw’s podcast co-host in the HBO revival of “Sex and the City,” shared a disturbing experience where he was so intoxicated that he couldn’t perform his lines. The incident occurred while he was in Hawaii, in a state of blackout drunkenness, when his agent called and informed him that he was urgently needed in New York. The filming schedule had been rearranged due to Sarah Jessica Parker’s availability, forcing him to travel while under the influence.

Upon arriving in New York, Lee found himself being taken directly to the set of AJLT instead of going to his hotel as planned. Overwhelmed by the situation, he revealed, “My face just became drenched with sweat… I remember going there, being so high and drunk, and when I was reading the script I couldn’t even understand what the fuck it was even saying. And it was the most difficult scene, too. I had to cross a street with [Parker] and it’s in the middle of New York.”

Lee, visibly distressed, admitted that he couldn’t even utter the first line of the scene, describing it as a nightmare. It was at that moment he made a firm decision to embark on a sober journey, recognizing the potential calamity that could have ensued for his career. Reflecting on his journey, Lee emphasized the importance of self-compassion and boosting his self-confidence. He acknowledged that recognizing his accomplishments and abilities, despite feeling hesitant to sound arrogant, has been crucial in his recovery process. In fact, he humorous shared, “I feel like the Korean Brad Pitt.”

Now one and a half years sober, Lee has come a long way since that moment and is focused on personal growth. Season 2 of “And Just Like That” is currently available for streaming on Max.
