Bluffton Shooting Incident: Anticipate Extended Police Presence after Saturday’s Incident

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting an investigation into a shooting incident that took place on Saturday afternoon in Bluffton.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Buckwalter Parkway and Farm Lake Drive.

For the next few hours, there will be a significant presence of police and emergency vehicles in the area. If possible, it is advised to avoid the vicinity, as stated by the Sheriff’s Office.

Unfortunately, there are no further details available at this time.

Prior to the reported shooting, authorities had already notified about an accident at the same intersection. The involved vehicle and emergency vehicles have blocked the southbound lanes of Buckwalter Parkway.

Residents of the Farm at Buckwalter, a large neighborhood off of Buckwalter Parkway, shared on their Facebook page that law enforcement engaged in a high-speed chase in Bluffton. The pursuit ended at the entrance of The Farm, resulting in a shoot-out between law enforcement and a suspect. Present at the scene are Bluffton police, the Sheriff’s Office, and Highway Patrol, according to the Facebook post. An eyewitness reported hearing 10 to 20 shots fired, while another reported witnessing a vehicle on fire.

The public was alerted by the Sheriff’s Office at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

This incident follows a shooting on Hilton Head Island on Thursday evening, which resulted in the death of a man.

Investigators are asking anyone with information regarding the Hilton Head shooting to come forward.

Deputies received a call on Thursday about a reckless driver on Marshland Road near Allen Road on Hilton Head Island. A short time later, another call was received reporting “shots fired” in the same area. A witness observed a possible gunshot victim lying on the road.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered the lifeless body of a 30-year-old resident of Allen Road. The victim was accompanied by an injured dog, presumably wounded by gunfire.

Evidence was collected from the scene, and investigators conducted a thorough search of the surrounding area in hopes of finding potential witnesses to the crime.

The injured canine was taken to Port Royal Veterinary Clinic by Beaufort County Animal Services for evaluation and treatment.

As of now, a suspect in the Hilton Head shooting has not been identified. People with any information related to the incident are encouraged to contact Sergeant Cushman at 843-255-3722. Alternatively, if they wish to remain anonymous and possibly receive a reward, they can contact Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry at 843-554-1111.
