‘Black Mirror’ Raises Concerns Over Netflix’s Terms and Conditions

The latest episode of “Black Mirror” Season 6 resonated so deeply with Netflix viewers that it prompted them to anxiously review the streaming service’s terms and conditions.

Titled “Joan Is Awful,” the first episode features a businesswoman named Joan (played by Annie Murphy) who becomes the unwitting subject of an artificial intelligence-generated drama on a fictional Netflix-like platform called Streamberry.

This startling turn of events occurs without Joan’s consent, as she carelessly overlooks the terms and conditions of the streaming service.

Following the episode’s airing, a wave of curious Netflix users took to the internet, searching for the platform’s terms and conditions in hopes of uncovering any parallels in the small print.

In just three days after the season premiered on Netflix, Google Trends reported a staggering 596% increase in searches for “Netflix terms and conditions.”

But rest assured, Netflix’s actual terms of use do not currently include a provision for exploiting someone’s life and transforming it into a popular series.

“Black Mirror,” an anthology series that explores the implications of technology on humanity, first premiered in 2011 and has since become one of Netflix’s most beloved shows.

You can now stream Season 6 of “Black Mirror” on Netflix.
