Billy Joel, 74, earns ‘cool dad points’ by taking daughters to meet Taylor Swift at The Eras Tour: ‘She’s really very good’

Billy Joel, 74, announced that he earned ‘cool dad points’ after treating his two daughters to see Taylor Swift during her Eras Tour date in Florida earlier this year. The New Yorker recalled the special night his children were able to both see and meet the Bad Blood singer. Billy shares daughters Della Rose, 8, and Remy Anne, 6, with wife Alexis Roderick, whom he tied the knot with in 2015. He revealed he got ‘very cool dad points’ for taking the girls to Swift’s Tampa concert during an interview with People at the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame. Joel also gushed about the singer and expressed plans to see her again in the future.

Billy took to Instagram to share fun moments from the concert, including a snap in which the Uptown Girl hitmaker held his daughters’ hands as he led them through the crowded stadium. He also posted a selfie his wife took with Della and Remy ahead of the festivities and a short video of his children dancing to the track, …Ready For It?, as Swift performed live on stage. He penned, ‘Rockin’ into our new ‘era.’ Thank you @Taylorswift, we loved the show! #swifites #taylorswift #theerastour.’

In a 2021 interview with USA Today, Billy compared Swift to The Beatles, saying that ‘she’s a very talented girl and she’s productive and keeps coming up with great concepts and songs; she’s huge.’ The Love Story singer later responded to Billy’s comments, saying, ‘That honestly broke my brain.’ During an interview with the Los Angeles Times, he praised Swift once again and expressed respect for her and other artists from her generation.

Billy celebrated an exhibition opening up in his honor at the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame earlier this week. The exhibit, called Billy Joel – My Life, A Piano Man’s Journey, is ‘filled with over 50 years of rare memorabilia, videos, awards, recordings, instruments, photos, many donated from Billy’s personal collection,’ as per the official website. In June, he announced that his longtime residency at Madison Square Garden will come to an end next year in July 2024, a decade after it began in 2014. When he’s not on stage, Billy enjoys spending time with his daughters, stating that he loves hanging out with them and being a stay-at-home dad.
