Billboard: AMC App Overwhelmed as Taylor Swift Fans Rush to Purchase ‘Eras Tour’ Film Tickets

The support for Taylor Swift from her fans, known as the Swifties, is so strong that they managed to crash an entire app.

When Taylor Swift surprised her fans by announcing that her Eras Tour concert was turned into a movie, fans rushed to the AMC app to buy tickets, causing the app to crash. According to Collider, the app displayed a message stating that online reservations were temporarily unavailable due to high demand, and directed fans to visit their local AMC Theatre in person to purchase tickets.

Billboard has reached out to AMC for more information. The Hollywood Reporter quoted AMC as saying, “AMC is also aware that no ticketing system in history seems to have been able to accommodate the soaring demand from Taylor Swift fans when tickets are first placed on sale. Guests wanting to be the first to buy their tickets online may experience delays, longer-than-usual ticket-purchase waiting-room times and possible outages. AMC is committed to ensuring any delays or outages are addressed as quickly as possible.”

According to a release, every U.S. AMC Theatre location will show the movie at least four times per day on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with ticket prices set at $19.89 plus tax for adults, and $13.13 for children and seniors plus tax (excluding premium large-format screens). The film will be available in AMC theaters in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and tickets are currently on sale here and here.

Taylor Swift herself posted a trailer for the film on Twitter, expressing her excitement about the Eras Tour coming to the big screen. She encouraged fans to purchase tickets and emphasized the importance of embracing the Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing, and dancing during the movie.
