President Joe Biden is scheduled to make a trip to Maui on Monday, where a devastating wildfire has claimed over 100 lives and left the island in disarray.

Accompanied by first lady Jill Biden, the President intends to meet with brave first responders, survivors, and government officials to assess the extent of the damage, according to an announcement by the White House on Wednesday.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre emphasized that President Biden is actively coordinating an all-encompassing response from the government to aid in the aftermath of the destructive fires in Maui. She stated, “The President is fully committed to providing all the necessary resources to support the people of Hawaii in their recovery from this catastrophic event.”

Initially, President Biden faced criticism for the delay in visiting the island, but he has been in constant communication with officials, carefully determining the most appropriate time for a visit to avoid hindering ongoing rescue and recovery operations.

“My wife Jill and I are planning to travel to Hawaii as soon as it becomes feasible,” Biden stated at a Wisconsin event on Tuesday. “We have been in discussions with the governor to ensure that our visit does not disrupt the crucial recovery efforts. I have had the experience of witnessing numerous disaster areas, and I want to ensure that we provide everything they require.”
