Biden’s Unforgettable National Security Test in Israel: Triumph or Tragedy?

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Saturday, Oct. 7, marked a significant event in Israel’s history, akin to the impact of September 11th in the United States. It has now become President Joe Biden’s most critical test in terms of national security.

In the face of this challenge, President Biden has expressed his full support. During an interview on “60 Minutes” he stated, “Israel has to respond, they have to go after Hamas.”

If handled correctly, strong American leadership can ensure the continuation of the Abraham Accords peace process, thwart Iran’s intentions, and prevent China from exploiting the situation for diplomatic gains.

ISRAEL-HAMAS WAR: BIDEN TO VISIT ISRAEL ON WEDNESDAY IN SHOW OF SUPPORT

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin made it clear that “this is no time for neutrality” during his visit to Israel on October 13th.

There are several key areas to monitor as Israel prepares for major military operations:

Two aircraft carriers. The deployment of a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East is significant. The USS Gerald R. Ford, along with its crew of 5,000, was already in the region for military exercises with Italy, making it a natural choice for rapid deployment to the Eastern Mediterranean. With the arrival of the USS Eisenhower, the combined forces will have the capability to conduct day and night operations for as long as necessary. These aircraft carriers, along with their F/A-18EF Superhornets, E-2 radar planes, and helicopters, will significantly enhance America’s air superiority in the region. Furthermore, the cruisers and destroyers accompanying the carriers extend the sea-based missile defense and surveillance capabilities. These moves provide the United States with a strong deterrent against potential reprisal strikes.

Deployment of more Air Force fighters. The Pentagon recently deployed additional F-15s, F-16s, and A-10s to bases in the Middle East. F-35 stealth fighters were already stationed in Jordan, providing crucial air support to Israel. These visible displays of military strength send a clear message to Iran and also ensure that the United States can transport military supplies to Israel without interference.

BIDEN SHUNS CALLS TO DE-ESCALATE, VOWS US ‘HAS ISRAEL’S BACK’ AS IT PREPARES FOR GROUND WAR WITH HAMAS

Prepared Marines. Following the Hamas attack on Israel, Marines from the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit promptly departed from a training exercise in Kuwait. They returned to their amphibious assault ship USS Bataan to stand ready for any assigned tasks. This unit previously assisted with the Afghanistan withdrawal in 2021.

Intelligence. American intelligence agencies are working diligently to provide Israel with valuable information, including imagery, signals intelligence, and more, to aid in mapping out Hamas in Gaza. Major General Christopher Povak of the U.S. Space Force stated, “We can see the world, sense the world, and hear everything that’s happening at any given time.” This intelligence is crucial for Israel’s current situation. Additionally, satellites and drones monitor the activities of state actors like Iran and non-state actors like Hezbollah. They keep a close watch on force posture, determining whether activities are indicative of routine operations or potential escalation.

Direct aid to Israel includes munitions such as the Small Diameter Bomb. Israel’s air forces operate American-made F-15s and F-35s and have a history of procuring precision air weapons. Boeing recently expedited the delivery of 1,000 Small Diameter Bombs to Israel. This weapon, previously used successfully in U.S. airstrikes against ISIS, has dense explosives and precise tracking capabilities, making it ideal for targeting moving vehicles. Fortunately, the supply of Small Diameter Bombs is readily available.

Of course, the deployment of Iron Dome is also imperative. While Iron Dome is an Israeli missile shield system, the United States has supported its development through testing and funding. The U.S. Army already has Iron Dome batteries, and the U.S. Marine Corps is purchasing Iron Dome for Pacific island air defense. Additional interceptors can be easily transferred to Israel as needed.

President Biden assured Israel, stating, “We’re surging additional military assistance, including ammunition and interceptors to replenish Iron Dome. We’re going to ensure that Israel does not run out of these critical assets to defend its cities and citizens.”

It’s natural to wonder if the United States can support both Israel and Ukraine. The answer is yes. Israel will receive advanced, precise air weapons, while Ukraine will receive artillery to support its ongoing offensive against Russian forces. According to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General C.Q. Brown, the equipment aid for Ukraine has already been planned out until January 2024.

There is no room for error in President Biden’s response to the Israeli crisis. The recent Afghanistan withdrawal, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and Chinese military activities near Taiwan have significantly impacted America’s reputation. The current situation with Israel demands swift and decisive action, with no margin for failure. Any misstep could embolden Iran and have far-reaching consequences.

By backing Israel’s operations in Gaza with American military power, President Biden can take a significant step towards restoring America’s credibility as a global superpower.

This is a lesson that Iran, China, Russia, and North Korea all need to witness.
