Biden’s ‘Strategic’ Weapons Delay Brings Suffering to Ukraine

Is the Biden administration truly concerned about the well-being of the Ukrainian people who are suffering daily due to Russia’s brutal invasion? According to The Washington Post’s David Ignatius, who seems to serve as a stenographer for the Biden administration, officials believe that “strategic patience” is the best approach when dealing with Putin. However, this patience is costing Ukrainian lives, and it’s hard to find humor in the situation. Instead of waiting and delaying aid to Ukraine, Team Biden should recognize that the best weapon against Putin is to provide Ukraine with the necessary military support.

Ignatius’ recent article was clearly an attempt to save face for the administration, as unnamed senior officials expressed pessimism about Ukraine’s progress in the media last week. But instead of focusing on the emotional trauma and casualties suffered by both sides, the Biden team should prioritize providing Ukraine with the weapons it desperately needs. The Democrats and their media flunkies would surely not be concerned about Russia’s emotional trauma if the situation were reversed.

I recently spoke with Michael Poperechnyuk, an entrepreneur and activist from Nikopol, who highlighted the exhaustion felt by Ukrainian society and the need for more weapons to expedite victory. Ukraine has been waiting for F-16s and tanks for an extended period, and the lack of resources, both in terms of weaponry and manpower, has hindered their progress. Meanwhile, Russia continues to have more resources at its disposal.

Financial aid hasn’t been an issue for Ukraine, but military aid has been lacking since the beginning. When I asked Ukrainians what the United States and the West could do to help liberate their lands, the immediate answer was always “F-16s” or “weapons.” Providing certain types of weapons earlier would have accelerated offensive operations and increased the chances of success.

Although the Biden administration has finally approved transfers of F-16s and cluster munitions, the delay has undoubtedly hindered Ukraine’s progress. However, it’s better late than never. There are still other types of cluster munitions and long-range ATACMS missiles that Ukraine needs to target enemy ammunition depots and command centers. The success of their military operations hinges on acquiring these weapons.

It’s disheartening to see that while Ukrainians risk their lives on the battlefield and make territorial gains against Russia, the Biden administration is openly criticizing Ukrainian commanders and discussing “lessons learned.” President Zelensky made it clear that he didn’t need a ride out of Kyiv but ammunition to defend his country. Despite lacking air dominance, Ukraine has shown resilience and achieved victories against the odds.

It’s time for Team Biden to acknowledge that the Ukrainian people, who have valiantly fought against Russian aggression for over a year and a half, know best. The stories of liberation from Russian rule are worth celebrating, and Ukraine’s commanders, like Oleg Shiryaev, have demonstrated their expertise on the battlefield. The Biden administration should listen to those who have successfully resisted the monster that is Putin’s regime.

In conclusion, it’s imperative that the Biden administration moves beyond mere patience and provides Ukraine with the necessary military support. The Ukrainians have proven their resilience and are the ones who understand the situation on the ground best. It’s time for Team Biden to prioritize Ukraine’s well-being and provide them with the weapons they need to secure victory.
