Recent polling reveals that President Biden’s team faces multiple issues that need to be addressed in order to strengthen his support among voters. An ABC News/Washington Post poll indicates that 44% of respondents have experienced a decline in their personal financial situation during Biden’s term, which is the highest share reported since 1986. Currently, Biden’s overall approval rating stands at 37%, with a disapproval rating of 56% according to ABC News. Dissatisfaction with his handling of the US-Mexico border situation is expressed by only 23% of the respondents. Over the past few months, the percentage of people who believe that Biden is too old to serve a second term has risen by 6 points to 74%.
The findings from an NBC News poll align with these sentiments. Furthermore, they serve as a warning sign for Democrats as a segment of their base shows decreased interest in the upcoming presidential election. One voter, Mary Lyon, a 53-year-old Arizona Democrat, acknowledges that although 80-year-olds are capable, she has concerns about Biden’s physical health as the demands of the job can take a toll. The ABC/Post poll also reveals that if the previous Republican nominee ran again, Biden would trail behind, with a 51%-42% margin. Moreover, the poll indicates a shift in voters’ sentiment towards Donald Trump, with a 48% approval rating compared to the 38% he had when he left office.
On the other hand, Kevin Chester, an Arizona Republican who voted for Trump in the past two elections, is starting to distance himself from the former president. He believes that Trump would not be able to accomplish anything in a second term due to being preoccupied with past litigation. Chester stated that he would protest by voting for a third-party candidate if faced with a choice between Trump and Biden.
