On his 81st birthday, Joe Biden received some concerning news about his struggle against potential opponent Donald Trump. Recent polls indicate that Trump is gaining ground among key voter segments including Black, Hispanic, and young Americans. For the first time, Biden’s approval rating has fallen to 40%, and he is lagging behind Trump in a hypothetical general-election match-up.
Trump, who is just three and a half years younger, faces 91 criminal charges and civil suits over his business affairs and a rape allegation. However, despite all of this, a majority of Americans still believe that Biden is too old for a second term as Trump continues to close in the polls.
On the bright side, Democratic strategist Simon Rosenberg expressed optimism about the presidential election next year, downplaying fears of a Republican “red wave”. Rosenberg cited huge swings to Biden in states like Nevada and Georgia, indicating that the Republican party is in trouble.
While Biden may be facing challenges in terms of economic conditions and policy choices, Democratic operatives remain confident in a potential election victory. Donna Brazile pointed out that past presidents, including Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton, were trailing in their re-election campaigns. She emphasized, “Don’t count out Joe Biden.”
